Messy Church 13 June 2020
During June and July we will continue to send out fortnightly Messy Church@Home packages and we have decided to theme them around four natural features that frequently appear in well known Bible stories – mountains, rivers, seas and lakes. Today we are at Mount Sinai which is where the Old Testament story of Moses being given the ten commandments takes place. To hear the story of Moses and how he lead the Hebrews out of Egypt and to Mount Sinai, watch this video – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogfVBP35U-U
Mountains were important to people in the Bible as they felt that being high made them closer to God. We know that we can be close to God anywhere. However, it’s interesting to learn about mountains. Here’s some ideas from John – http://www.thechaosandtheclutter.com/archives/how-fold-mountains-are-made and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzxq6VTwbXM (If you try the second one it could be messy!!!)
- Remembering the ten commandments might seem a bit difficult but if you think about it, many of them are things we all know we should do. Janet has found a version which is easy to understand. You might like to print it off and pin it up somewhere where it will be a reminder.
- We’ve got two options for a model of Moses holding the stone tablets for you to make. For version 2, print it onto thin card or paper, cut out and colour it in and then assemble it using a loo roll or kitchen paper inner tube as the base.
- Jesus gave us two new commandments which summarise the ten commandments. They are sometimes known as the greatest commandments and this craft (use this template) helps us to work out which of the ten commandments is covered by Jesus’ two great ones.
