On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of Luther’s publication of the 95 theses, this talk explored the legacy of the German Reformation. A particular focus was on congregational singing and how the hymns shaped Protestant identity in Germany and Britain to the present day. We looked at (and sang) examples from the first Protestant hymnbook printed in 1524 in Erfurt to the Methodist hymnbook ‘Hymns and Psalms’.
